Luo Jiang - Sounds of Autumn. |
Luo Jiang
In the autumn of 2009, Dadbrook Gallery was invited by the Painting Academy of Yunnan in South West China to a symposium in Kunming to inaugurate the Yunnan Contemporary Artists International Exchange Forum.
As a result of this partnership, Dadbrook Gallery is proud to present three artists from Yunnan province at the Affordable Art Fair, Spring Collection from 10th to 14th March 2010. This will be the first time these artists have had their work shown in the West and represents the first step in a long-term commitment to exchange artists' work between Yunnan and the UK.
Luo Jiang is the most distinguished figure in this group. Born in Chuxiong, Yunnan Province, China in 1959, he studied for his MA degree from the East China Normal University, Shanghai and is currently the Director of the Yunnan Academy of Art and the Yunnan Art Gallery.
He draws his inspiration from the life of the Yi people, one of the 55 Chinese ethnic minorities, whom he has studied and painted for the last three years. His work is of the highest quality, brilliantly evoking the way of life of this little known, strikingly beautiful people. He shows them travelling, at different seasons of the year, always wearing their brilliantly coloured, beautifully detailed costumes.
Luo Jiang's works are in the National Art Museum of China, as well as in the art museums of Beijing, Anhui, Henan, Guangdong, Shandong, Gansu, Yunnan and many private collections as well. |
