Lu Yuwei
Lu Yuwei was born in Shanghai in 1977. She is one of the new darlings of the Shanghai art district, M50, which is where the Dadbrook Gallery first saw her work in October 2007.
As well as painting, she is a professor of art at East China Normal University.
She has already exhibited both in China and internationally and has attracted the interest of serious collectors worldwide.
She has the rare ability to create a new world in her work. She paints Shanghai as a She-City, a city belonging to women. Women of all ages are witness to a rapidly evolving society, which has leapt from traditional manners to more progressive behaviour in just a few short decades. She is a painter with something important to say. She says it well, in a very personal way.
This is the first time her work will be shown in Great Britain.
